In addition to horses, the owners of SummerWind Farm, John and Laura Parker, share a passion for another four legged athlete – the Greyhound. The Parkers are active in the racing Greyhound adoption movement and finding good homes for racing Greyhounds at the end of their professional careers. They are longtime members of the Southeastern Greyhound Club and were among the founding volunteers of Southeastern Greyhound Adoption, which is a chapter of Greyhound Pets of America. For information on the Greyhound breed and adoption, please click here.
The Parkers are active in the sport of lure coursing, an amateur field trial sport for Greyhounds and other sighthound breeds. Their Greyhounds, most of whom are former racers, compete under the SummerWind Kennel name in trials sanctioned by the National Lure Coursing Club and the American Sighthound Field Association. Like the SummerWind Farm Thoroughbreds, the SummerWind Greyhounds enjoy second careers —as companions and lure coursers. Greyhounds do indeed make champion pets!
In addition to the former racing Greyhounds, SummerWind Farm is home to two famous coursing Greyhounds from England. Hardy Admiral was the runner-up in the 2005 Waterloo Cup, the world's premier coursing event. Basso Profondo was named the outstanding puppy of the 2004 - 2005 co ursing season, and won the 2005 Waterloo Plate. Both Greyhounds are available for stud service -- both their pedigrees and their proven athletic talents will be a valuable addition to any breeding program.
We hope you enjoy seeing the photos of the Greyhounds, and that your interest in the breed has been piqued by this brief visit. |
